History

A vision, a mission, a goal.
Elondra was founded in 2004 in Spain by 3 partners that covered very different but complementary backgrounds. In total they had managed: large consulting firm, financial management, human resources and technical management and expertise for Food and Beverage SME.

They knew what it meant for a distribution and field sales company to be able to take orders off-site with what then was new technology, the advantage over pen and paper or fax. They saw the benefits in reducing errors, speeding up the processing of information, but they also encountered the constant hardware and software problems, large expenses, difficulty in use, training...

They quickly discovered that the mobile phone began to develop new functions and capabilities: digital camera, mp3 players, several megabytes of memory.... Yet it´s use was purely for entertainment and still very much focused on voice communication. They envisioned the potential and began to invest effort, time and capital developing tools to make the mobile phone a real business tool.

From 2004 to 2007 they developed an application for presale management that run on phones like Nokia 6600 or Siemens S65, testing it with close customers that started using their software replacing their old terminals and PDAs, helping the development, testing and refinement of the solution.
Many challenges laid in the way, starting with the limited ways of storing and searching data on standard phones, and continuing with the unreliable mobile networks. Data had to be safely stored and delivered, and needed to be really fast for real day to day work.
But challenges make the most out of people, and in late 2006 it was clear that almost 80% of the development could be moved to a framework. Something that could be used to develop any kind of enterprise mobile solutions.

In late 2007 their efforts in R&D and the support and trust of several partners, made BaseMovil technology become a real factor. Not only in was it cost-saving to customers and showed to improve every way of doing business, but it was a better experience to their employees and their end customers.
They decided then to move a step forward, and released much of the BaseMovil platform as Open Source, under the project OpenBaseMovil. Hosted at Sourceforge is a growing platform that has been downloaded thousands of times all over the world, and is being used for business as well as for teaching at some universities.

Elondra´s awards have given real recognition and support to all their efforts in innovation and technology: SIMO Incubator 2006, Most innovative technology-based company (ANCES and Ministry of Industry of Spain), INNOVA 2007 (Toledo Business Federation).

In 2008 "la Caixa" also confided in Elondra, financing its growth through their Entrepreneur XXI Initiative capital seed funding, and more recently, in 2009 ENISA (also with funds from the ERDF) has financially participated in Elondra´s growth.

Elondra has also developed profiting alliances and partnerships in the IT and telecom sector, working closely with partners like BlackBerry and Orange who have welcomed Elondra and BaseMovil technology to their products and applications.
